Runway Magazine at Boulevard3!

Publisher, James Buccelli, Runway Magazine, hosted “Summer Splash ’08 featuring Non-P” fashion show at Boulevard3, 6523 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California to a standing room only audience, June 26, 2008. Highlights of the evening included Key Closet’s diamond-studded $10,000 jeans; Caprice Bianca’s handbags; Vegan Queen’s eco-friendly line of handbags and Judith Bright’s jewelry with her semi-precious stones wrapped in gold or silver. Sponsors were Sunset Tan, Millennium Model Agency Inc., Cops Care Cancer Foundation, Support Her Vodka, MOSS Networks, Aktiv8 Promotional and APTO Designs. In my opinion, Runway Magazine delivered on a night filled with buzz and fashion delight.

2008 Beverly Hills Film Festival

Style On The Carpet!
By Veronica Viljoen

Beverly Hills, California is known around the world for Rodeo Drive, the ritzy zip code, 90210 and home to the world’s richest A-List Celebrities. With those facts in mind, I decided to attend the 2008 Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF), Opening Night, Red Carpet Arrivals, World Premiere of “Thunder Man: The Don Aronow Story” featuring Andy Garcia and West Coast Premiere of “Hole In The Paper Sky” starring Jessica Biel, in review of the fashions that made it down the carpet.

Celebrities in attendance included: Danny DeVito and wife Rhea Perlman (both have cameos in BHFF official selection “Cat Dragged In”), Joe Anderson (“The Ruins,” “Across the Universe”), Phil Stern (legendary photographer & BHFF 2008 Living Legends Award Recipient), Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (UFC World Champ, BHFF official selection “Bad Guys”), Eric Roberts (BHFF official selection “The Cookie Thief”), Lyn Shaye (BHFF official selection “The Election,” “Snakes on a Plane”), U.K. socialite Kirsten Lea; actor Jake Busey, and the cast of “The Art of Travel,” including Christopher Masterson, James Duval, Danny Masterson and Johnny Messner; as well as internationally renowned DJ/Actress, Natasha Nova.

Producer/writer of "Cat Dragged In" Polly Walter with her godparents, Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito and her father (actor) Tracey Walter. (L) Danny Masterson, (R) BHFF Founder, Nino SimoneThe fashions on the carpet were stylish, easy to the skin and elegant in style selection. Brights, pastels, solids to the traditional black and white were the run of the mill on the carpet. As a flirty option, Actress, Natasha Nova comes to mind in her free flowing, navy baby doll inspired dress she wore to the event.

Viljoen: “Who are you wearing?”
Nova: “This dress is by Los Angeles, Designer, Petro Zillia that was selected for me, compliments from Kin Boutique”.
The selection by Nova’s stylist regarding the Petro Zillia design, made her sexy, young and so Hollwood for the carpet. Thumbs up!

On the other hand, Actor, Eric Braeden, best known as Victor Newman, The Young And The Restless, went for the timeless, classic feel in his style selection of a black color palette worn alongside a pair of jeans.

Viljoen: “Did you have a Stylist assist you in your outfit for this evening?”
Braeden: “Oh no, I just went to my wardrobe and then decided what I wanted to wear”.

Viljoen: “Who are you here with this evening”

Braeden: “I came with my son, Christian and his girlfriend”.
In my opinion, Newman looked good; he was dressed for the evening, so much of it seemed as though he was still in character as Victor Newman. It was a pleasure interviewing him on the carpet.

The closing ceremony to the Beverly Hills Film Festival Living Legends Award will be presented to legendary photojournalist and Hollywood photographer Phil Stern by producer/director Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour” franchise) at the Awards Gala on Sunday, April 13th at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Stern walked the red carpet on Opening Night for the first time in his 88 years, accompanied by past BHFF award-winning filmmaker Hector Cruz Sandoval (“Kordavision”). The filmmakers are currently in production on a documentary about Stern’s life titled, “Hollywood Big Shot.” It’s a Wrap, V.

LA Style - March 2008

By Veronica Viljoen

In Los Angeles, March 2008 was fashion delight. New lines to view; buyers and editorial decisions on overload; the Fall 2008 Collections finally came to LA and then Socialite, Paris Hilton, (L) suprised us all by attending the runway show of her sister, Nicky Hilton, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, Tuesday, March 11 at 8:00pm.

Unfortunately, for some of us, Paris Hilton did not stop on the "arrival area" at the event, nor did she stop for any photographers in The Lounge inside The Tent. Surrounded by about 7 people in her entourage, Hilton was whisked right thru to her final destination, backstage to Nicholai. I was one of those photographers that only got a few images of her in passing. However, LA Photographer, Glenn Francis, Pacific Pro Digital, made good on been at the right place in the right time. Francis landed numerous images of this timely event as Paris Hilton came out in support of her sister. Also, at the collection were the parents to the Hilton sisters, Kathy and Rick Hilton.

Fall 2008: Los Angeles & Johannesburg

By Veronica Viljoen

Fall 2008 continues to be
interesting and captivating as
I review collections for my blog.

Some of the memorable odes for this season in my book is the return of the multi talented, design guru Ms Vivienne Westwood to London Fashion Week; the insane decision of Giorgio Armani to ban New York Times, Fashion Critic, Cathy Horyn from his showing; the "carousel" set design that Chanel used and then what this entry is about: how well South Africa's premiere fashion event, Sanlam SA Fashion Week (SSAFW) compares to my adopted home, Los Angeles Fashion Week, namely Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

With this segment, I will let the pictures speak for themselves as I have placed images from Los Angeles and Johannesburg side by side for your review. In keeping with my comparison in design talent, if I ever had the opportunity, I would select Amanda Laird Cherry, Black Coffee, Colleen Eitzen and Lunar as the 4 fashion designers from SSAFW to show during Market Week at the California Market Center in Los Angeles for Spring/Summer 2008. When I inquired from Lucilla Booyzen, Founder and Director, Sanlam SA Fashion Week, the same question, Booyzen added, "in my opinion, Ruby, Lunar, Terence Bray and Tiaan Nagel will make my selection list".

Enjoy the comparison within the six images that I selected.
It's a wrap! Till my next post, Veronica.
