Award Season

In Hollywood, Award Season started last week with the Golden Globes. As is the norm, decisions will be made as to which dress or gown should be worn during this overexposed timecapsule in Tinseltown. Designers, publicists, spouses and friends all way in regarding the selected design that will be seen by millions around the world. In 2006, I had the chance to ask three designers their inspirations behind the dress they designed for the November 18, Little Black Dress, event at Fleur De Lys in Beverly Hills. Kevan Hall stated that Audrey Hepburn was the pure inspiration for his dress. Kelly Nishimoto answered that she wanted to design the perfect black dress. While Peter Cohen added that he wanted his dress to crawl in design. These answers are symbolic of design option that we continue to embrace. So whether it is the buzz of Tinseltown, the Red Carpet experience or the inspiration behind the designs, great design is timeless as we await more reveal during "Award Season 2009". The high-profile Little Black Dress charitable event, established in 2002, by Emmy Cortez Kasten, returned to Los Angeles by hosting company, EM & Co, for a month-long (September 16 - October 12) celebration of style and fashion. Hand-picked selection of retailers and designers are showcased at The Sunset, 8570 West Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA. Thanks to Audrey Hepburn, we still celebrate the LBD to this day.
