Last Day - Spring 2009 @ Smashbox Studios

On Thursday, October 16th, IMG and Smasbox Studios showed their last collborative effort of LA Fashion Week for the world to review. According to the Los Angeles Times, "The Spring 2009 Collections - Dressed Up And Down", Sunday, October 19, P3", the collections offered a array of fashion for the industry. I agree in that you had options of which shows to cover according to your own editorial interest.
In that regard, I added Brooklyn Royalty Spring 2009 to my list of shows to attend at Kyoto Hotel, Rooftop Garden. Hightlights included the color palette and the designers preference in eye make-up. According to Make-up Artists, Marcie Regalado and Glamour Lane , "we went with the direction from Designer, Bob Bland inorder to create the metallic, look on the eyes".

MB Fashion Week @ Smashbox Studios

Day two, October 13th, at Smashbox Studios was quiet. A far cry from the hectiness that I experienced there in past seasons but as always, stylish women to photograph.
Here's the best: Golden Brooks, Elena Serdyuk & Lady Victoria Hervey. It's a wrap, V.

Style File - April 2008

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, LA:
Celebrities at The Tents

For Fall 2008, March 9 – 13, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, Los Angeles, offered a platform for Hollywood’s celebrities to attend a fashionable event. Lauren Conrad, Paris Hilton, Kristie Alley, Lisa Rinna and P.Diddy were among some of the celebrities seen at The Tents. This season mostly lesser known designer names showed at The Tents while the more established names either showed in New York or off-venue sites around Los Angeles. Designers, Orthodox, Whitley Kros, Joseph Domingo, Nicholoi, Elmer Ave, Ashley Paige and Pussycat Dolls (photo above) by Robin Antin were some of the names on the program. Despite, the mix in fashion genre, the Fall 2008 collections in LA were stimulating and celebrity spotting to the eye.

In my opinion, a celebrity in her own right within the fashion industry, Fern Mallis, 7th on Sixth/IMG, has been significantly absent at the Los Angeles shows this last season. Or is it just a case of my path not crossing with hers? Till my next post, it's a wrap - V.

Fall 2008: Los Angeles & Johannesburg

By Veronica Viljoen

Fall 2008 continues to be
interesting and captivating as
I review collections for my blog.

Some of the memorable odes for this season in my book is the return of the multi talented, design guru Ms Vivienne Westwood to London Fashion Week; the insane decision of Giorgio Armani to ban New York Times, Fashion Critic, Cathy Horyn from his showing; the "carousel" set design that Chanel used and then what this entry is about: how well South Africa's premiere fashion event, Sanlam SA Fashion Week (SSAFW) compares to my adopted home, Los Angeles Fashion Week, namely Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

With this segment, I will let the pictures speak for themselves as I have placed images from Los Angeles and Johannesburg side by side for your review. In keeping with my comparison in design talent, if I ever had the opportunity, I would select Amanda Laird Cherry, Black Coffee, Colleen Eitzen and Lunar as the 4 fashion designers from SSAFW to show during Market Week at the California Market Center in Los Angeles for Spring/Summer 2008. When I inquired from Lucilla Booyzen, Founder and Director, Sanlam SA Fashion Week, the same question, Booyzen added, "in my opinion, Ruby, Lunar, Terence Bray and Tiaan Nagel will make my selection list".

Enjoy the comparison within the six images that I selected.
It's a wrap! Till my next post, Veronica.

Looking Back - Spring 2008 in Los Angeles

By Veronica Viljoen.
Over the years, Los Angeles has always been the last of the global cities to show it's seasonal collections

After we have seen Milan, Paris, New York, London and the smaller fashion capitals, Tinseltown then shows. Looking back, here are some of the images from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Spring 2008 at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles that made it a time to remember for me.

Lauren Gurvich/Design Suites Director: "The diversity of all the lines were fantastic. We had a great mix of contemporary, eco-friendly, denim, accessories and swimwear". (answer received 10/23/2007.)
