Black Coffee at New York Fashion Week!

Arise Magazine African Collective - Runway - Fall 2010 MBFW

A few weeks ago, Black Coffee, showed at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. I loved the intricate coat designs by the design duo, Jacques van der Watt and Danica Lepen. Before the collection showed, I inquired from Emma Jordan, Editor, Arise Magazine, about the impending show.

Q & A:

Q: "Inorder to give my readers an insiders take on Black Coffee to which American fashion designers would you compare Black Coffee?"

A: "Rodarte. It is not an obvious comparision but Black Coffee's use of texture; their understanding of form and a certain deconstructed feminism is, for me, all reminiscent of the Rodarte girls. There is also a hint of Margiela, with a dichotomy of soft and hard; there's a firm, tangible intellect that runs through their collections".
